Exigent Response for Patrol Officers
3 Day course (LE Only)
August 8-10, 2025
Cost -$900 per student
Location: Milford, CT Shoot house/Range
Course Description
This course is designed to prepare patrol officers — the true first responders — for the realities of responding to exigent calls, particularly hostage and high-threat situations. Contrary to the common perception that specialized tactical units (SWAT) resolve most critical incidents, statistics and operational truths show that patrol officers are overwhelmingly the ones who encounter and must immediately address these dangerous events. Whether the outcome is peaceful or results in the justified use of deadly force, the initial patrol response often determines the safety of victims, bystanders, and officers themselves. Students will learn tactical decision-making, crisis communication, immediate action drills, and the foundational principles for managing critical incidents when seconds count and specialized resources are unavailable.
This course emphasizes the necessity of proper training to reduce tragic outcomes, community mistrust, and legal exposure. Agencies and officers alike carry significant liability when officers fail to act decisively, or when they act without the requisite skill and preparation criticized by courts and public scrutiny. Through realistic scenario-based training, de-escalation techniques,and use-of-force decision frameworks, officers will leave better equipped to recognize, react to, and resolve exigent threats. Ultimately, this course seeks to instill not only operational competence but also the confidence to perform under extreme pressure — protecting lives while reducing the risk to innocent people and the officers.
Attending officers will receive a course completion certificate as well as POST credits from a Connecticut POST certified instructor in the following areas;
-
