Very nice belt. Well made and i like the components. Met Jeff at a class near Ft Bragg and decided to get a belt after checking it out. He definitely knows what he’s doing and these have a lot of thought and experience put into them. Definitely going to suggest this to everyone i know.
High Quality 2 Piece “Battle Belt”-surprise up-charge
I has previously ordered a size 32, Black Operator 3.0. I had spoken to the owner Jeff Thompson about ordering the belt black with ranger green molle and no elastic. He said it was no problem, just order and black belt, and put the description in special instructions when checking out, no additional charge. I decided to order a 34, as even though the 32 belt fit, I did not have much room for adjustment, and the belt just looks cleaner and sharper when not extended so much. I did the exact same thing, ordered and put in special instructions. I was surprised to get an email that there would be a $20 “custom fee”, although I was ordering the exact belt, just in a different size, and no elastic would mean less material and less time in the sewing machine. The belt is already the most expensive 2 piece battle belt I know off, with the only other belts in this price range using tegris for a lighter, thinner, yet still vertically stiff belt. SubSecond has AMAZING fit and finish, and the integrated glove hook/pen holder is genius, but is uses basic resin coated scuba webbing for its inner and outer belt. But after the custom fee the belt was $250. Ex Umbris Designs, another company owned by a former Green Beret offers belts made of 2 layers of resin coated duty webbing, and offer every color combination under the sun for $140-150 for with Cobra buckle or ≈ $165 for Cobra with D-Ring. Ex Umbris under belts were quite pliable and comfortable, but if you wanted a stiff inner belt, you could get an AWS 2” inner belt made from SCUBA webbing(like SubSecond’s supplied inner belt) for $24.50, making the belt ≈ $190 with a second inner belt and huge selection of color combinations, and fit and finish 98% of what SubSecond’s is. After this long tirade, still glad I got the belt, always want to support made in products, from socks, underwear, jeans, to battle belts. Despite what I think is a product that is slightly overpriced, and the “custom fee” caught me off guard because of my previous order, I still think it is a fantastic product. The customer service from the OWNER! Jeff, and Abigail was top notch. I hope and have a good guess that Jeff takes good care of his employees with their wages, benefits etc. given the price points (but all the products are top notch) but getting thread and sewing into resin coated SCUBA webbing is hard work and hard on the sewing machines. I am obviously incredibly bored right now, so I wrote this, great product, over priced, but would again, hope Jeff is taking care of his staff.
Work belt
I am a LEO at the largest metropolitan in my state. I utilize this belt for work as a patrol officer. The belt quality seems great and it’s a very robust belt. I needed a belt that carried weight better than my DM belt. This belt is NOT flimsy, to me it’s an updated ronin in my eyes which isn’t a bad thing. So far the belt has worked great overall. The biggest complaint was probably user error, I’m a size 32 but I’m out of molle spaces. I guess I should have ordered a larger belt. I want my mag carriers to be directly off my buckle but I am not able to do that because I am out of space. So my carriers are more towards my hip, so not ideal.
The bees knees
As a lefty, I often run into belts that don’t have enough molle on my right side. This belt did not have that problem. It’s stiff and very nicely made. I’ll be picking up one as my patrol belt once I get the notification for the trade in belt coupon.
